Connecting Our Community

Connecting Our Community

Oct 4, 2026 | Local

Kelowna’s public spaces are getting some major upgrades lately. As our community continues to grow, so does the need for places that bring people together. From new recreation facilities and activity centres to expanded parks and improved waterfront spaces, investments are happening in neighbourhoods across the city, creating more opportunities for Kelowna residents to get outside, stay active and love where they live.

Earlier this year, the completion of our upgraded waterfront boardwalk gave us even more reason to enjoy our downtown core and spend time by the lake. Now, the City is turning its attention toward another piece of waterfront life with plans for a new public swimming area at City Park, creating another way for residents to enjoy the lake right in the heart of downtown. This new outdoor space will have protected swimming areas and diving platforms, 50-metre swim lanes, sun decks and shaded areas, and space for other activities.

And that’s just the beginning! Here are a few of the projects to look forward to as Kelowna continues to shape the future of our community spaces:

Mission Activity Centre:
A new community hub in the Mission Recreation Park connecting H2O and MNP Place with recreation and gathering spaces, community programming, and 91 new childcare spaces.

Glenmore Recreation Area:
An 11.5-hectare recreation destination with tennis and pickleball courts, fitness areas, a skate park, a splash park, playgrounds, sports facilities and more!

New Parkinson Rec Centre:
A completely expanded and redeveloped recreation facility with impressive aquatic and fitness facilities (including a hot pool, cold plunge, steam room and sauna!), a triple gymnasium, 4 tennis courts, 24 pickleball courts, multipurpose spaces, and other outdoor sports amenities.

Aurora Park:
Rutland’s new neighbourhood park will provide residents with a vibrant new playground, green space, gathering space, and dedicated dog areas to the community.

A home is more than just four walls and a roof – it’s the neighbourhood, the community, and the spaces connecting them that make a city like Kelowna feel like home. For anyone considering where they want to put down roots, these kinds of investments are worth paying attention to.
